Colourful end of 16th National Jamboree of Bharat Scouts and Guides

The 16th National Scouts and Guides jamboree concluded here on Saturday amidst a call for compulsory education of all children by Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy. “Education will stand you in good stead through thick and thin,” he told the large gathering of Scouts at Shankarpally in Ranga Reddy district. The jamboree camp looked like a mini township with 2,500 tents spread over 350 acres. Scouts numbering 18,000 including 100 from Nepal, Bangladesh and France presented an enthralling culture programme. It was a gap of 57 years that Andhra Pradesh was hosting a jamboree.
‘Best days'
The Chief Minister who reviewed the parade was visibly impressed by the smart turnout of boys and girls. “I am being reminded of my own school days when I attended the Scouts and Guides and NCC camps”. He was still in touch with the friends he made at the camps. The school days were the best days in one's life. “Once you enter college and take up job, your problems will increase,” Mr. Reddy told the children. He asked them to imbibe the spirit of unity in diversity and take forward the national integration theme. With discipline and dedication, they could achieve anything, he said. Secondary Education Minister K. Parthasarathy said government would try to make Scouts and Guides compulsory in all schools as advised by the Governor, E.S.L.Narasimhan. Ministers -- D.Sridhar Babu, Sunita Lakshma Reddy, Sabitha Indra Reddy were also present. Earlier, Samal Kumar Biswas, Commissioner, Scouts and Guides, said the movement started in 1907 aimed at shaping the youth as responsible citizen by strengthening them mentally and physically.

16th National Jamboree - Hyderabad - Andhra Pradesh

Imagine what happens when over 18,000 boys and girls dressed in their best gather at one place in a small village. The serene environs of the village suddenly get electric and come alive in a jiffy. This is what happened at Shankerpalli, a small village in Ranga Reddy district on Tuesday after the Bharat Scouts and Guides 16th National Jamboree commenced with a theme “Disciplined Youth – Nation's Pride.” The objective of jamboree is to inculcate universal brotherhood among cadets and provide them a platform to learn more and share experiences. Over 18,000 Bharat Scouts and Guides from across the country and nearly 100 from overseas participated in the inaugural session. Holding national flags and raising slogans of “Jai ho”, the Scouts and Guides came up with a scintillating performance that depicted national integrity.
Governor E.S.L Narasimhan was the chief guest, while M. P.'s Governor P. Rameshwar presided over the function. Both the Governors received the guard of honour from the Scouts and Guides. Loud cheers from participants welcomed each contingent, as it made its way to the saluting base. But the cynosure of the event was the jamboree song “Tela Tellavare” that was specially organised by A.P. continegnt of Bharat Scouts and Guides. Addressing on the Scouts and Guides, Governor E.S.L Narasimhan said such a huge gathering of cadets portrayed a mini-India. This gathering was a good example of unity in diversity and it was important to preserve national integrity, the Governor pointed out. “Scouts and Guides should be made mandatory in schools. Each contingent should adopt a village and serve people. They should educate them, create health awareness and make villagers self-sufficient,” he said. Madhya Pradesh Governor P. Rameshwar Thakur said Scouting was not just membership but commitment of service to the community.
